Coverage options
What a home policy can include
Tap any coverage to see what it does and when it matters.
Dwelling
Repairs or rebuilds the house itself after a covered loss.
Dwelling coverage pays to repair or rebuild your home’s structure, including the roof, walls, floors, and built-in systems like plumbing and wiring, after a covered event such as fire, windstorm, or hail. The limit should reflect what it would cost to rebuild today, which is often different from your home’s market value or what you paid for it.
Good to know: Many Texas policies carry a separate wind and hail deductible, often a percentage of your dwelling limit. Ask us what yours would be before a storm, not after.
Other Structures
Fences, sheds, detached garages, and other buildings on your lot.
Other structures coverage applies to things on your property that aren’t attached to the house: a wood fence, a storage shed, a detached garage or workshop, a pergola. It’s usually set as a percentage of your dwelling limit, which can be raised if you have a large barn or shop.
Good to know: Fences take a beating in North Texas wind storms. It’s worth knowing how yours would be handled.
Personal Property
Furniture, clothes, electronics, and everything else you own.
Personal property coverage helps replace your belongings after a covered loss like fire, theft, or a burst pipe. Policies pay either actual cash value (what the item is worth today, after depreciation) or replacement cost (what it takes to buy it new). Replacement cost usually costs a bit more but pays out much closer to what you’ll actually spend.
Good to know: A quick video walk-through of each room makes a claim far easier. Save it somewhere other than your house.
Loss of Use
Extra living costs if you can’t stay home during repairs.
If a covered loss makes your home unlivable, loss of use (sometimes called additional living expenses) helps pay for a hotel or rental, extra meal costs, and other expenses above your normal budget while repairs are underway. After a fire or major water damage, that can mean weeks or months.
Good to know: Keep receipts. This coverage pays the difference above your usual costs, so records matter.
Personal Liability
Injuries or damage you or your family cause to others.
Personal liability helps pay when you’re found responsible for someone else’s injury or property damage, whether a guest trips on your stairs or your dog bites a neighbor. It also helps cover legal defense if you’re sued. It follows you and your household, not just what happens on your property.
Good to know: If your savings or home equity would be more than your liability limit, an umbrella policy can add another layer on top.
Medical Payments
Small medical bills for guests hurt at your home, regardless of fault.
Medical payments to others covers smaller medical bills for someone injured on your property, like a guest who slips on a wet patio, without anyone needing to prove fault. It’s meant to handle minor injuries quickly, before they turn into a bigger claim.
Good to know: It doesn’t cover you or the people who live with you. That’s what health insurance is for.
Water Backup
Sewer or drain backups, which standard policies often leave out.
Water that backs up through a sewer line or floor drain, or overflows from a failed sump pump, is excluded on many standard home policies. Water backup coverage is often available as an add-on for a modest cost, and the cleanup bill for this kind of damage adds up fast.
Good to know: Water backup isn’t flood insurance. Rising water from outside needs a separate flood policy.
Coverage availability and limits vary by policy. We’ll walk you through each option before you decide.

Incredible service. Saved me a ton of money and it was a hands free process. Provided them with my current insurance (home/auto), they matched the coverage and it came in significantly less expensive. A simple phone call and a few emails to complete enrollment. Awesome!

Home insurance FAQs
Straight answers about home insurance
Don't see your question here? Give the office a call and we'll help you sort it out.
Talk to the office(940) 281-2069Is home insurance required in Texas?
Texas law doesn’t require homeowners insurance, but if you have a mortgage, your lender almost certainly does. Even with the house paid off, your home is usually your largest asset, so most owners keep it insured.
Does home insurance cover hail and wind damage?
Most Texas home policies cover hail and wind, but many use a separate wind and hail deductible that’s often a percentage of your dwelling limit. That can be much higher than your regular deductible, so it’s worth checking before storm season.
Is flooding covered by my home policy?
No. Standard home policies exclude flood damage from rising water. Flood coverage is a separate policy, and there’s usually a waiting period before it takes effect, so don’t wait until rain is in the forecast.
What’s the difference between replacement cost and actual cash value?
Replacement cost pays what it takes to repair or replace something new, before depreciation. Actual cash value subtracts depreciation, so an older roof or couch pays out less. Some policies treat the roof differently from the rest of the house, and we’ll show you how yours works.
How much dwelling coverage do I need?
Enough to rebuild your home at today’s labor and material costs, which isn’t the same as the sale price or appraisal. We’ll help estimate a rebuild number based on your home’s size, age, and features.
What do I need to get a home quote?
Your address, the approximate year your roof was replaced, and your current declarations page if you have one. That’s usually enough to put coverage side by side.
