What business insurance can include
Tap any coverage to see what it does and which businesses usually need it.
General Liability
Injuries and property damage your business causes to other people.
General liability helps pay when a customer slips in your shop, when your work damages someone else’s property, or when you’re accused of things like advertising injury. It can also help with legal defense costs if you’re sued. Landlords, general contractors, and larger clients often ask for proof of it before you start.
Good to know: If a client asks for a certificate of insurance or to be added as an additional insured, call the office and we’ll get it to them.
Commercial Property
Your building, equipment, inventory, and furniture.
Commercial property covers the physical things your business owns: the building if you own it, plus tools, computers, inventory, and fixtures. Covered causes typically include fire, theft, and wind and hail, which matter in North Texas. If you rent your space, this covers your contents and improvements, not the landlord’s building.
Good to know: A homeowners policy usually offers little or no coverage for business equipment kept at home. Tell us if you run a business out of your house.
Business Owner’s Policy
General liability and property packaged together for many small businesses.
A business owner’s policy, or BOP, combines general liability and commercial property in one policy, often with business income coverage built in. It is usually simpler and less expensive than buying each piece on its own. Offices, retail shops, and many service businesses are common fits.
Good to know: Not every business qualifies for a BOP. Eligibility depends on your industry, size, and revenue, and we can check quickly.
Commercial Auto
Trucks, vans, and cars that you or your employees drive for work.
Commercial auto covers vehicles used for your business, including liability if an employee causes an accident while working and damage to the vehicles themselves. It can also be set up to cover employees driving their own cars on business errands.
Good to know: Personal auto policies often exclude or limit business use. If a vehicle hauls tools, makes deliveries, or carries a company logo, ask us how it should be insured.
Workers’ Compensation
Medical bills and lost wages for employees hurt on the job.
Workers’ comp pays medical costs and a portion of lost wages when an employee is injured or gets sick because of their job. Texas is the one state where most private employers can choose whether to carry it. Many do anyway, and some contracts and job sites require it.
Good to know: Texas employers who opt out generally lose certain legal defenses if an injured employee sues. We can walk you through the tradeoff.
Employment Practices Liability
Claims from employees about how they were hired, treated, or let go.
Employment practices liability helps when a current, former, or even prospective employee accuses your business of discrimination, harassment, or wrongful termination. Defending one of these claims can be expensive even when you did nothing wrong, and general liability usually excludes them.
Good to know: If you have even one or two employees, it is worth asking about. Claims can come from job applicants too, not just people on the payroll.
Professional Liability
Claims that your advice or professional service caused a client to lose money.
Professional liability, also called errors and omissions, helps when a client says your work was wrong, late, or incomplete and it cost them money. General liability usually doesn’t cover these claims. It matters most for consultants, designers, real estate pros, and anyone paid for expertise.
Good to know: Some professions and client contracts require it. If a contract mentions E&O, send it over and we will review the requirement with you.
Business Crime
Money or property lost to theft, fraud, forgery, or robbery.
Business crime coverage helps when money, checks, or property are stolen, whether by a break-in, a robbery, a forged check, or someone on the inside. Standard property policies often limit coverage for cash and employee theft, so this fills that gap.
Good to know: If employees handle cash, deposits, or bookkeeping, ask how crime coverage fits with your property policy.
Business Income
Lost income and ongoing bills while a covered loss keeps you closed.
Business income coverage, also called business interruption insurance, helps replace lost revenue and pay ongoing expenses like rent and payroll when a covered event, such as a fire or major storm damage, forces you to close for repairs. It is often part of a BOP or added to a property policy.
Good to know: Think about how long it would realistically take to reopen after a bad storm, and pick limits that match.
Cyber Liability
Help after a data breach, hack, or ransomware attack.
Cyber liability and data breach coverage can help pay to notify affected customers, set up a call center to answer their questions, provide credit monitoring for the people affected, and handle claims after customer information is stolen or your systems are locked up. If you take cards, keep customer records, or run on email and cloud software, you have some exposure.
Good to know: Coverage details vary a lot between policies. Ask us what is included before you assume a breach is covered.
Coverage availability, eligibility, and limits vary by policy and by type of business. We’ll walk you through each option before you decide.
Who we help
Coverage for local businesses
Every business carries different risks. Here are a few of the kinds of businesses we help around Denton most often.
Start My Business QuoteContractors & Trades
Roofers, electricians, plumbers, and landscapers often need liability, tools coverage, and commercial auto before they can land the job.
Restaurants & Food Service
Kitchen fires, slips in the dining room, and a walk-in cooler that quits overnight. Ask about equipment breakdown, food spoilage, and coverage if the health department closes you down.
Retail Shops
Customers on the premises, inventory on the shelves, and a storefront to protect. A business owner’s policy is often a good starting point.
Auto Service & Repair
Tools, lifts, and customer cars in your bays. Garagekeepers coverage protects the vehicles you’re working on, and liability can extend to the parts you install.
Offices & Professionals
Consultants, agencies, and other offices usually need professional liability alongside basic property and liability coverage.
Home-Based Businesses
Running a business from home can leave gaps in your homeowners policy. We’ll help you close them without overbuying.

Talk to the office(940) 281-2069What insurance does a small business need in Texas?
Most small businesses start with general liability and property coverage, often packaged as a business owner’s policy. Beyond that it depends on what you do: commercial auto if you drive for work, workers’ comp if you have employees, and professional liability if clients pay for your advice or expertise.
Is workers’ comp required in Texas?
For most private employers, no. Texas lets private employers choose whether to carry workers’ comp. Employers who opt out generally lose certain legal defenses if an injured employee sues, and many contracts and public projects require coverage, so it is worth a careful look.
Does my homeowners policy cover my home business?
Usually only a little, if at all. Homeowners policies often limit or exclude business equipment and business liability. Depending on your business, an endorsement or a separate business policy can fill the gap.
Can I use my personal auto policy for business driving?
It depends on how the vehicle is used. Personal policies often exclude or limit business use like hauling equipment or making deliveries. If you drive for work regularly, ask us whether you need commercial auto.
How fast can I get a certificate of insurance?
Once your policy is in place, call or email the office and we can usually send a certificate of insurance quickly. Have the name and address of the person or company requesting it ready.
What is garagekeepers coverage?
Garagekeepers coverage pays for damage to customers’ vehicles while they are in your care, such as at a repair shop, body shop, or a restaurant with valet parking. Your own commercial auto and general liability policies usually don’t cover a customer’s car sitting in your lot or bay.
What do I need to get a business insurance quote?
A description of what your business does, your address, annual revenue, number of employees, any vehicles used for work, and your current policy if you have one.
